Practice Policies

Appointments

At Donabate Portrane Medical Centre, appointments are offered based on availability. There is a maximum number of patients each doctor can see each day.

If being seen as an emergency appointment, please note you are being added at short notice and you will only be able to discuss the acute problem with the doctor at that appointment.

Appointments are 15 minutes long. If you feel you require a longer appointment this can be requested at the time of booking.

If you wish to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please get in touch with the surgery either by telephone or email as soon as possible. This will improve access to appointments for everyone including yourself for when you need it.

Respiratory Symptoms

We would recommend that all patients with respiratory symptoms bring a face mask while in waiting room and during consult.

Test results

There are a large number of test results. It is not possible to telephone every blood result. Unless you specifically instruct against, you will receive a test result from the practice saying that your test results were satisfactory or that you should contact the practice to make a review appointment to discuss them.

We would be grateful if you contacted the practice regarding blood results if you have not heard from us within seven days. Please email Info@dpmc.ie or ring 01-8435557.

Complaints procedure

Patient complaints are always taken seriously. Complaints can be made confidentially either verbally or in writing to Dr Anthony Sharkey. The complaint will be reviewed within 48 working hours. Dr Sharkey will assess the complaint and aim to resolve any issue as soon as possible. Complaints will be discussed at a practice meeting with the focus on looking at fixing any issues.

Behaviour policy

Our policy is treat every patient with the utmost respect and courtesy. We expect the same from patients towards all staff including administrative staff. Patients who show any aggressive or inappropriate behaviour will be asked to leave the practice.
