Doctors
Dr Anthony Sharkey
BSc, MB, BCh, BAO, MICGP

Dr Anthony Sharkey became GP principal in Donabate Portrane Medical Centre in August 2024. He was a radiographer before returning to the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland to study medicine. He graduated with honours in 2017 and went on to complete specialist GP training on the Northeastern GP training scheme. He enjoys all aspects of general practice but has a special interest in cardiovascular disease and men's health. Dr Anthony is also an undergraduate tutor for the RCSI so can sometimes have medical students with him.
He is married to Yvonne and they have two young children.
Dr Alison Poff
MB, BCh, BAO (NUI, RCSI), LRCSI, MRCPI, PgDipEd, MICGP
Dr Alison Poff is a native of North County Dublin. She graduated with honours from the Royal College of Surgeons in 2014, subsequently training in multiple hospital based medical specialties, and becoming a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in 2016.
She went on to complete specialist GP training with the North East GP Training Scheme, attaining membership of the Irish College of General Practitioners. Dr Poff has a special interest in women’s health and holds additional qualifications in contraception, advanced LARC and cervical smear taking. She also holds a certificate in dermoscopy.
She is passionate about medical education, having worked as a lecturer at the Royal College of Surgeons and holding a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Professions Education.
Dr Yvonne Sweeney

BSc, MB, BCh, BAO, MRCSI, MICGP
Dr Yvonne Sweeney is a native of Drumcondra. She worked as a physiotherapist in St James’s Hospital before studying Medicine in RCSI, qualifying with honours in 2017. She completed her specialist training with the North East GP training scheme in 2024 and is a member of the Irish College of General Practitioners.
She was successful in her surgical examinations in 2019 and holds membership of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. She completed a certificate in dermatology with University College Dublin and a certificate in dermoscopy with Skin Cancer College Australasia. She has a special interest in dermatology, mental health, paediatrics and women’s health. She is a certified cervical smear taker.
